On December 2, 2008, an explosion occurred on the west side of the Soufriere Hills lava dome. Volcanic material flowed through the city of Plymouth, setting some buildings on fire.
After 10 months of relative quiet, Soufriere Hills Volcano on the Caribbean island of Montserrat continued activity in October 2009.
