Plumes of Saharan dust blew off the west coast of Africa on November 9, 2007. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Aqua satellite took this picture the same day. In this image, the dust plumes appear as translucent blurs blowing westward over the Atlantic, many of them curving in a clockwise direction. Aside from the dust, skies are clear over the region, giving a sharp view of western Africa’s arid landscape.
A day later, dust lingered over Cape Verde.
