Dust Plumes off West Africa

Dust continued blowing off the west coast of Africa throughout the day on July 19, 2009. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Aqua satellite took this natural-color picture at 14:45 UTC the same day. In contrast to the image acquired by the Terra satellite about three hours earlier, this image shows more diffuse but still visible dust, farther from the coast of Senegal and closer to Cape Verde.
