Ongoing Eruption of Mount Belinda

When the ice-covered Mount Belinda began to erupt in October 2001, it provided scientists a unique opportunity to study the interaction between lava and ice in extreme environments. Because of the remote location of the volcano in the southern Atlantic Ocean between Antarctica and South America, much of the study has been done with satellite imagery.
