Gray Plume Over the Sea of Japan

The Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) on Suomi NPP captured this view of clouds and haze over the Sea of Japan on March 19, 2017.

The hazy plumes come at a time of year when cold winter air exacerbates air pollution in some Asian cities. March is also an active month for dust storms in the Gobi and Taklimakan deserts.
