In central Quebec, Canada, numerous wildfires (red dots) are billowing thick smoke toward the southwest. Within days, the smoke had reached the Great Lakes and New England regions of the United States. This Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) image was acquired on July 5, 2002.
Please note that the high-resolution scene provided here is 500 meters per pixel. For a copy of the scene at the sensor's fullest resolution, visit the MODIS Rapid Response Image Gallery.
