A thick pall of sand and dust (brownish pixels) blew out from the Sahara Desert over the Atlantic Ocean on April 22, 2002, engulfing the Canary Islands in the Eastern Atlantic Ocean. This true-color image was acquired by the Moderate-resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS), flying aboard NASAs Terra satellite.
Please note that the high-resolution scene provided here is 500 meters per pixel. For a copy of this scene at the sensor’s fullest resolution, visit the MODIS Rapidfire site.
