An intense bushfire in and around Grampians National Park in western Victoria burned 43,000 hectares (106,000 acres) by January 18, 2014. The fire was burning just west of Halls Gap in Mount Difficult Range. This natural-color satellite image was acquired by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) aboard the Terra satellite on January 17. Actively burning areas, detected by MODIS’s thermal bands, are outlined in red.
