A handful of large fires were scattered across northern Saskatchewan Province, Canada, on July 1, 1010, when the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Aqua satellite passed overhead and captured this image. Places where the sensor detected active fires are outlined in red. West-southwest winds were driving the smoke away from the fires.
