A dust storm swept through Iraq on May 25, 2008. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Aqua satellite captured this image the same day.
In this image the dust plumes form a fuzzy haze of tan over the slightly darker land surface below, partially obscuring the satellite’s view of Iraq’s large lakes. Besides the dust plumes, only occasional clouds mar the otherwise clear skies over the region.
