A thick swirl of dust hangs like a tan curtain across northern Libya and the Gulf of Sirte in this Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) image from the Aqua satellite captured on May 26, 2004. The dust is spreading out from the Gulf and northward toward the open waters of the Mediterranean Sea.
The high-resolution image provided above is 500 meters per pixel. The MODIS Rapid Response System provides this image at additional resolutions.
