Since late September, fires have been burning across northern Australia’s Kimberly Plateau. This image of the fires (marked in red) was captured by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on the Aqua satellite on November 3, 2003.

Terra MODIS detected dozens of active fires across northern Australia on November 8, 2003. This image is centered farther west than previous days’ images.




At the beginning of the dry season, fires are burning in the savanna grasslands of northern Australia.
