African Dust Reaches Northern Europe

On April 16, 2003, the Sea-viewing Wide Field-of-View Sensor (SeaWiFS) captured this image of African dust blowing far northward over Europe. The long trail of dust can be seen at bottom center arcing over the Pyrenees Mountains that separate Spain (south) from France (north). The trail stretches over the Atlantic Ocean and across Ireland (west) and Scotland, and continues eastward to Sweden and Norway, and then Denmark, to the south.
