On Feb. 26, 2003, the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) instrument on the Terra satellite captured an image of scattered fires burning across central South America. Most of the fires (red dots) are in Argentina (left), Paraguay (center), and southern Brazil (upper right).
The high-resolution image provided above is 500 meters per pixel. The MODIS Rapid Response System provides this image at MODIS’ maximum spatial resolution of 250 meters.
