Wanmei Liang joined NASA Earth Observatory in 2023 as a Science Data Visualizer. Her expertise lies in GIS (geographic information systems), remote sensing, data visualization, and cartography.
Prior to joining NASA, Wanmei dedicated her efforts to disaster mapping with the nonprofit organization Disaster GIS. Her work focused on utilizing imagery from Landsat, Sentinel, GOES, and Himawari to map and analyze various disasters including wildfires, hurricanes, tornadoes, and landslides.
Wanmei holds a bachelor’s degree in geography and GIS from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). She actively engages in the GIS industry and makes valuable contributions to communities such as the Women in GIS, #30DayMapChallenge, #GISChat, and serves a mentor, providing guidance and support to aspiring professionals in the GIS industry.
