Haze lingered along the southern edge of the Himalaya, spreading south into India and Bangladesh in early January 2008. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) flying on NASA’s Aqua satellite captured this image on January 10. In this image, the haze appears as a dull gray blur that hugs the Himalaya and obscures the view of most of Bangladesh. Small red dots in this image are hotspots—areas of anomalously warm surface temperatures most likely resulting from wildfires or agricultural fires.
