This Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) image from April 5, 2003, shows a dust storm blowing in from the northwest over Iraq. A haze of tan pixels hangs over the image at upper left, showing the approach of the storm. At top center, clouds are taking on a dusty appearance. In southern Iraq and near Baghdad, hot spot detections (red dots) show the location of probable oil fires, while farther east, the hot spots may be flares and other small fires associated with normal oil refinery operations.
