Fires in Southeast Asia

Hundreds of fires were detected burning in southeast Asia on March 25, 2003, by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on the Aqua satellite. High concentrations of fires appear in eastern India, in the upper left part of the image, as well as central Myanmar, at the right of the image.

The high-resolution image provided above is 500 meters per pixel. The MODIS Rapid Response System provides this image at MODIS’ maximum spatial resolution of 250 meters.
