Acquired January 7, 2010, this true-color image shows Tropical Cyclone Edzani over the Southern Indian Ocean. The storm has a well-defined eye surrounded by spiral arms spanning several hundred kilometers.
There are lots of ways to categorize storms, but research meteorologists have a simple way of dividing them: thunderstorms, tropical cyclones, and extra-tropical cyclones.
