Rain patterns inside Tropical Storm Erika reveal a lack of organization within the storm because of El Nino-induced winds, which tend to tear tropical storm systems apart.

Erika looked like a weak storm when this image was captured on September 3, 2009. Instead of clouds that spiral in towards a well-defined center, spokes radiate out from the storm as high-altitude winds pull the storm apart.
