Rocky Mountain Fires

This image from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Terra satellite shows the ongoing fire activity in the western United States on Monday, June 10, 2002. Several large fires are burning in Utah (left of center), Colorado (right of center), and New Mexico (bottom right). In southwest Utah are the Big Wash and Sanford Fires. In Colorado, firefighters are battling (clockwise from top left) the Long Canyon, Hayman, and Missionary Ridge Fires. In New Mexico is the Ponil Fire.
