Tropical Storm Hagupit

Tropical Storm Hagupit

Tropical Storm Hagupit can be seen closing in on Hong Kong in this true-color image taken on September 11, 2002, by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS), flying aboard NASA’s Terra spacecraft. The storm was packing sustained winds of up to 75 kilometers (47 miles) per hour and gusts of up to 95 kilometers (59 miles) per hour when this image was taken. Hong Kong is located on the lip of the largest inlet in the upper center portion of the image. The storm is expected to make landfall just west of the city by early morning September 12. The Hong Kong Stock Exchange was shut down for the afternoon session due to the bad weather brought about by Hagupit.
