Rocky Mountain Fires

Rocky Mountain Fires

Though weather conditions have favored clear skies over Colorado this past week, this image from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) from June 20, 2002, shows the region blanketed in smoke. The Rocky Mountains run north-south, roughly splitting the state, and while the mountains themselves appear clear, the western and eastern flanks are shrouded in yellowish smoke.
