Wolf and Copper Fires Near Los Angeles

The Wolf Fire, west of Los Angeles, California, started on June 1, 2002, of causes that are still under investigation. By Tuesday evening, June 4, the fire, which is burning in steep, rugged terrain, covered in chaparral, pinion pine, and grass, had spread to over 7,000 acres. Multiple structures have been lost on a private ranch in the Los Padres National Forest. This image of the fire was captured by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on the Terra satellite on June 3, 2002.
