Wildfire At Okanagan Lake

Wildfire At Okanagan Lake

British Columbia, Canada, was experiencing extremely dry conditions in July 2009 according to the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre, and hot, dry weather was predicted to continue. Those conditions set the stage for a large fire that broke out northwest of Kelowna in mid-July. This image of the fire was captured by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Terra satellite on July 23, 2009. As of July 24, 2009, the fire was about 4,000 acres and 30 percent contained.
