Hurricane Frances

Hurricane Frances

At noon (EDT) on Saturday, September 4, the eye of Hurricane Frances sat just off the coast of eastern Florida when the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Terra satellite captured this image. Thunderstorms to the northwest of the eye were already ashore, beginning the deluge of the state that lasted throughout the weekend.

The high-resolution image provided above is 500 meters per pixel. The MODIS Rapid Response System provides this image at additional resolutions.
