Fires in California

On July 13, 2004, the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Aqua satellite captured this image of two large fires burning in California: the Meadow Fire (north) is burning in Yosemite National Park and was started by lightning, while the Pine Fire (large fire to the south) is burning northwest of Los Angeles. Close-up views of each fire appear in the right half of the image.
