Dust Storm over Jordan

An intense dust storm blew through the skies over Jordan on February 22, 2004. The plumes of dust (tan pixels) are blowing eastward and fanning out over parts of western Iraq and northern Saudia Arabia. This true-color image was acquired by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS), flying aboard NASA’s Aqua satellite.

The high-resolution image above is 500 meters per pixel. This scene is also available at additional resolutions.
