Dust Storm near Lake Chad

A bright white plume of dust from the Bodele Depression sweeps across the Sahel Desert in central Africa in this Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) image captured by the Terra satellite on November 5, 2003. The dust nearly obscures the northern sections of Lake Chad.

The high-resolution image provided above is at MODIS’ maximum spatial resolution of 250 meters per pixel. The image is also available in additional resolutions.
