Fires in Arizona and New Mexico

This Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) image from the Terra satellite on July 5, 2003, shows the Dry Lake Complex Fire burning in western New Mexico. Started by lightning on May 30, 2003, the fire has burned about 60,000 acres so far. The high-resolution image also shows the Aspen Fire in Arizona, to the southwest of the Dry Lake Complex Fire.

The high-resolution image provided above is 500 meters per pixel. The MODIS Rapid Response System provides this image at MODIS’ maximum spatial resolution of 250 meters.
