Hi
Antarctica has really been in the headlines in Australia due to the 100 year celebration of Mawson and his feats.
I am particularly interested however in the state of the fisheries/fishery potential down there.
We have heard a lot about the patagonian toothfish and Krill, I just wondered if much work is being done in this regard?

Cheers

Janet, check out our first post for some basic information (we will write more in the future):
http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/blogs/fromthefield/2011/10/04/how-much-does-it-snow-in-antarctica/
So far, in McMurdo we have only seen two types of wildlife: Skuas and Weddell seals. Here are some links with pictures from Wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Polar_Skua
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weddell_seal
We are of course keeping our eye out for penguins, but they are not often in McMurdo. Once we fly to Byrd Camp in the middle of West Antarctica we will probably not see any wildlife.
