dear dennis and janie,
thanks for your encouragement and i feel so fortunate to be able to share in at least some small way this absolutely incredible place. as you have read, my first impressions were a little different from what i had been expecting but my experiences of the next day were more than adequate to reaffirm that these islands are indeed as herman melville wrote - the enchanted isles.
best regards and thanks for reading.

Gene,
I am enjoying your voyage log and unique perspective on seeing the islands with fresh eyes. I too have long dreamt of visiting these islands, ever since reading Darwin's Voyage of the Beagle when I was a novice oceanographer at sea, 800 miles south out of San Diego, back in 1966. I switched careers to architectural acoustics, but have kept up with developments in natural history over the years. You will now have first hand knowledge. Very exciting.

Thanks for keeping us all briefed on your experiences.

Regards,
