Ralph, I couldn't agree more. Kircher has been denied his due.

You could use Kircher's life as the basis for a novel, but there wouldn't be a novel that tops the real story. (A newly published book you might like, if you haven't already read it, is "A Man of Misconceptions" by John Glassie. I recommend it along with the sources cited above.)

I've long thought Kircher deserves a movie. I was thinking Russell Crowe. If you wanted to focus on Kircher's quirkier side, maybe Rainn Wilson.

Kircher was a talanted man--of that there is little doubt. His life would make a good movie script or basis for a novel. Harrison Ford are you listening?? It is a shame Kircher has often been neglected in the history of science. Perhaps it was his bigger than life adventures that led to this--or perhaps it was too eay to dismiss him becuse sometimes he did believe in dragons. Ben Franklin believed in air baths, but we still regard him highly. I hope this site educates a few people about this very interesting
man and his place in history.

Very cool article. Kircher's diagram of the Earth is a very interesting map. Could see that as art on many victorian home walls.
