Fires Scorch Oregon

Fires Scorch Oregon

Columns of smoke continue to billow from the Florence Fire (southernmost) and the Tiller Complex Fire (to the northeast). Together these two fires total more than 400,000 acres, and continue to be a challenge for firefighters. This image was acquired by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on the Terra satellite on August 13, 2002.

This image comes from Direct Broadcast MODIS data produced by the Ocean Physics and Ecology Laboratory at Oregon State University in collaboration with NASA GSFC
