Fires Scorch Oregon

In south-central Oregon, the Tool Box Complex of fires is still actively burning and the large smoke plume can be seen north of center in this Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) image from July 24, 2002. The fire is larger than 63,000 acres, and in places along the eastern front, the fire is right up against the Winter Fire, which is 34,000 acres. In this image, active fire detections are marked with red dots.

Across Oregon, 15 large fires continue to threaten residences, commercial property and public lands. So far more than 210,000 acres have been burned.
