Fires and Heavy Smoke in Alaska

Fires and Heavy Smoke in Alaska

On May 28, 2002, the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) captured this image of fires that continue to burn in central Alaska. Alaska is very dry and warm for this time of year, and has experienced over 230 wildfires so far this season.

Please note that the high-resolution scene provided here is 500 meters per pixel. For a copy of the scene at the sensor's fullest resolution, visit the MODIS Rapid Response Image Gallery.
