Fires in Southeastern Russia

Fires in Southeastern Russia

On May 7, 2002, the Moderate-resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Terra satellite detected numerous fires burning in southeastern Russia, along the border with China. In the upper left quadrant of the image, what appear to be burn scars (brown) from previous fires cover a large area.

Please note that the high-resolution scene provided here is 500 meters per pixel. For a copy of this scene at the sensor's fullest resolution, visit the MODIS Rapidfire site.
