Dust Cloud over Sea of Japan

Dust Cloud over Sea of Japan

Dust continued to fill the skies over eastern Asia yesterday. The full-resolution version of this Sea-viewing Wide Field-of-view Sensor (SeaWiFS) image also shows that the volcano, Mount Oyama, on the island of Miyake-jima due south of Tokyo, is also adding its own aerosols to the mix. The grayish plume can be seen drifting first eastward and then southeastward from the small island.

A large patch of sea ice is visible in the upper right corner of the image to the north of Hokkaido.
