Snow Blankets Northeastern U.S.

After a late winter snowfall in the Northeastern United States, the clouds moved out and offered a clear view from space. On March 16, 2017, the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Terra satellite captured this image of land blanketed in white.

According to news reports, total accumulations varied dramatically by location. Washington (measured at Reagan National) saw just 2 inches (5 centimeters), while New York (measured at LaGuardia) saw 7.4 inches (18.9 centimeters). Larger accumulations were measured farther inland.
