Volcán Copahue

Volcán Copahue

Volcán Copahue, a stratovolcano on the border of Chile and Argentina in the Andes, was active during October 2014. Several explosions occurred, along with emissions of steam and ash plumes. This natural-color satellite image shows a volcanic plume streaming southeast from the volcano on October 21, 2014. The image was acquired by the Advanced Land Imager (ALI) on Earth Observing-1. Copahue has produced several bouts of explosive activity since it became restless at the end of 2012.
