Honey Prairie Fire, Georgia

Honey Prairie Fire, Georgia

The Honey Prairie Complex fire includes two fires burning in the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge in southern Georgia. Lightning started the first of the fires on April 28, 2011. Winds were blowing dense smoke from the fires southeast when the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on the Terra satellite captured this image on June 13, 2011. The plume extends far out over the Atlantic Ocean in the large image. As of June 14, both fires in the complex were 75 percent contained.
