Dust over the Red Sea

Dust over the Red Sea

Dust continued to cross the Red Sea in the afternoon of May 26, 2011, as the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Aqua satellite passed overhead. MODIS acquired this natural-color image at 2:00 p.m. Riyadh, or Ar Riyad, time (11:00 UTC).

In this image, the dust almost reaches the eastern shore of the Red Sea. On either side of the dust plume, skies are largely clear.
