Hurricane Celia

Hurricane Celia

The first hurricane of the 2010 eastern Pacific season, Hurricane Celia brought heavy rain as well as strong winds. The Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) observed Celia’s rainfall amounts on June 20, 2010. This image shows color-coded hourly precipitation levels—red being the heaviest and blue being the lightest—superimposed on a photo-like image. Small pockets of very heavy rain (50 millimeters, or almost 2 inches per hour) appear near the center of the storm. Most rainfall amounts are lower (0 to 20 millimeters, or 0.0 to 0.8 inches per hour), but they extend over a much larger area.
