Soufrière Hills volcano on the Caribbean island of Montserrat continues to erupt regularly. These two natural-color satellite images were taken 3 hours apart at 10:45 a.m. (top) and 1:45 p.m. (lower) local time on December 28, 2009. During that time, the volcanic plume dispersed and moved west.

The images were taken by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer aboard NASA’s Terra and Aqua satellites, respectively.
