Dust Storm over the Red Sea

Dust Storm over the Red Sea

A dust storm blew across the Red Sea on June 30, 2009, from Sudan toward Saudi Arabia. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Aqua satellite captured this true-color image the same day. Camel-colored dust forms a clockwise arc over the water, skirting the Saudi Arabian coastline. Although source points for the dust storm are not obvious in this image, the dust appears to originate far inland in Sudan.
