Dust Storm over Iraq

Dust Storm over Iraq

A dust storm blew through southern Iraq, near the Saudi Arabian border, on January 6, 2008. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Aqua satellite took this picture the same day. This image shows the dust storm following a roughly counter-clockwise arc through the country, closely matching the color of the land surface below. Forming near the Iraq-Syria border and skirting Saudi Arabia, the dust storm remains south of Iraq’s Tigris and Euphrates River Valleys.
