Asian dust blew across the Korean Peninsula toward the Sea of Japan on April 8, 2006. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Aqua satellite took this picture the same day. In this image, two beige plumes of dust, the thicker plume to the south, swirl away from the peninsula in a counter-clockwise direction. The northern plume of dust mingles with white clouds. Some of the particles in these plumes may result from pollution rather than dust storms.
