Ash Plume from Karymsky

Ash Plume from Karymsky

According to the weekly volcano report issued by the Smithsonian and the U.S Geological Survey for April 26-May 2, 2006, the Karymsky Volcano on the Kamchatka Peninsula in eastern Russia experienced intermittent eruptive activity during the period, with ash plumes rising about 3.8 kilometers (12,500 feet above surface level) into the air. At the time of the report, the volcano remained at Concern Code Orange. This image from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Terra satellite, captured on May 4, 2006, shows ash from the volcano fanned out across the snowy terrain.
