Dust Storm over Iraq

Dust Storm over Iraq

The dust storm that began on January 21, 2006, had abated somewhat the following day. The storm did, however, produce a slightly thicker cloud of dust over the Persian Gulf (lower right in the image). The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) flying onboard the Terra satellite captured this image on January 22. In this image, land areas that could not be seen the day before are now visible. Likewise, nearby cloud cover has lessened to the north and east.
