Fires in the Southeast Amazon

Accidental and intentional fires are transforming the Amazon rainforest. This image from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Aqua satellite on August 8, 2005, shows dozens of fires burning along roads and forest edges in Brazil. Places where MODIS detected active fires are marked with red dots.
